Saturday 29th June 2014
My workmate and I decided to go eat hotpot after a long time of discussing, making reservations and cancelling them (long story) but anywho getting ready after work at 5pm on a Saturday night to meet up at the city with only 30 minutes to get ready is NOT ideal!!!
But thank goodness I made it!
My workmate and I decided to go eat at 'Famous Hotpot' on Lt Bourke St in Chinatown, Melbourne. Boy was Chinatown packed at 7pm! We made a booking for 2 at 7pm but didn't get it until 7:10pm because of the people still eating hmph especially when your SUPER hungry, coming home from work and getting ready straight away!
Famous Hotpot is a Hong Kong style hotpot. This hotpot is an 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' HOTPOT! How good is that right?! BUT I have saved the best to last, the price for it is $29 per person!! How cheap is that?!
We got seated and the list of menu was given to us: a selection of meat, vegetables, sauces, seafood etc
This is only the back of the menu and I forgot to talk the front, stupid me -.- Going in there, my friend and I decided to order EVERYTHING on that menu! Knowing me, I did not know there was a $10 fee if we did not finish all of the food (excluding soup base) until my friend told me afterwards we ordered! But thankfully the waiters did not give us all of the items on the menu.
Each person got two choose two sauces from the sauce menu. For me, I choose the special sauce and BBQ and my friend chose bean curd sauce and sesame oil with garlic. They got my BBQ sauce wrong so we ended up with black sesame sauce.
The special sauce is in the silver can (to me, this had no flavour when dipping food into but the smell of it was good), transport honey look-like sauce at the back (sesame oil with garlic), the brown sauce is black sesame and the yellow cream sauce is bean curd which I enjoyed the most ^.^
The soup base we choose was mild mushroom. There was three options to choose from: clear base, hot and spicy and wild mushroom.
We ordered thin sliced beef, lamb, chinese white cabbage, prawn, mussels, fish balls. We ordered ALOT but can't recall them.
We also ordered a jug of plum juice. Ooooo that juice was good! A glass is $3 and a jug is $7.
I'm going to share this with you, my secret when eating is to undo your bottom so your stomach isn't tight or full. My stomach was fill to the point I could not bottom it back up again LOL but totally worth the amount of food we were getting!
Overall, the amount we paid $29 each person was the same amount or even more for what we ordered. The food was not bad so good to eat especially in this winter weather if you live in Melbourne.
Service, waiter/waitress were able to communicate in English however prefer to speak chinese luckily my mate was chinese so I did not have to do anything hehe
Food came out once we ordered so that's a plus. Don't need to make the most of the all you can eat because they don't care how much you order so you don't need to worry about ordering everything on the first go.
So if you haven't tried it, I recommend it, not too pricey so its afford to dine out there and give it a go with your mates! If you have questions or anything you would like to know just ask me and LIKE my facebook page!
